This is a 21” scale bass made from rare 40,000 year old Ancient Kauri wood! This is a wood which comes from the swamps of New Zealand, where it would have been left submerged in the bogs for tens of thousands of years. Only the native Māori people are allowed to freely excavate it from the swamps, which makes getting hold of any of the wood in this country a rare opportunity. This piece was brought back from NZ by the customer of the bass.
The bass itself is a 21” super short scale bass and is tuned to bass octave, unlike a lot of the other mini basses out there, which are tuned an octave higher. So it is essentially a bass in miniature, which makes for a really fun playing experience! The neck is super slim 5 piece of Maple and Mahogany with Rosewood fretboard and Kauri head plate.
The pickup is hand wound by Aaron Armstrong and is a Precision pickup in a soap bar case - we wanted the sound of a P pickup but not the look! This is paired with the Glockenklang 2 band active eq for a great variety of sounds.
